1.Dead poets society

This movie is about a free-spirited teacher transfers into an uptight,all-boys boarding school and teaches them about the importance of poetry and art and gives them advice on following your aspirations.Insightful and emotional, this movie will have you at tears by the end of it.The bond between the characters was touching and moving, this movie motivates and is heartwarming.

Excellent performances from all the actors and the script is VERY quotable. This is a movie that will have a lasting impact after viewing. It won best screenplay at the Oscars and was nominated for best picture, director and actor.

2.500 days of summer

This movie follows the perspective of Tom,a hopeless romantic, who ends up falling for summer, who is cynical about the idea of love.Throughout the movie,we see the progression of their relationship and a realistic take of love and the idea of the expectations we put on others based on what we see based on media and pop culture.

This is the ONLY romance movie you need to watch. You could watch this movie several times and your idea and thoughts on it will always change.Everything from the unconventional editing to the complex characters makes this movie so unforgettable.Add it to your watch list NOW.This movie garnered 52 nominations and amounted to 17 wins in several award ceremonies.

3.Snow piercer

This movie takes place in a dystopian world where the entire world has been covered in frost, the world's remaining survivors ride aboard a train with the poorest at the tail and the richest at the front. The survivors at the end grow restless and plan to overtake the rich by journeying the kilometers long train.

This movie has an interesting commentary on class and has so many underlying themes. This movie by far has the most captivating set out of any of the movies I've mentioned on this list and keep your eyes on the screen.Every scene is gripping and suspenseful. This movie directed by the same person who made parasite, gathered up to 33 wins and 104 nominations with this thrilling movie.

4.Forrest gump

Set during several decades in the life of Forrest Gump, a slow-witted but kind-hearted man from Alabama who witnesses and unknowingly influences several defining historical events in the 20th century United States. There never seems to be a dull moment in this movie, especially if you're a history buff and gives a light approach to heavy topics such as death, change and relationships through forests clueless perspective.

This is the movie you'll keep rewatching when you need something light-hearted and upbeat.

The movie received 50 wins and 74 movies which included best actor, script, editing and effects at the 1995 Oscars.

5.Whiplash

Andrew Neiman is a talented student at the prestigious Shaffer conservatory with the aim of becoming a world class drummer. His talent and fierce passion draw the attention of the school's most intimidating teacher, Terence Fletcher, who believes that students excel not through praise and encouragement, but through relentless humiliation and fear. What will Andrew sacrifice to be the best?

This movie gave me drive to be more productive and strive to be the best, but also made me think about the idea of perfection and being on top.”The most dangerous words you can ever say to someone is good job”,whoever wrote the script did a good job because I will forever remember this quote.

The film won 3 Oscars for best sound, editing and supporting actor and 144 nominations which included best picture and adapted screenplay.

6.The shining

Set in the haunted overlook hotel located in a barren and isolated mountain range, new tenants,Jack Terrance,an alcoholic novelist, his wife Wendy and their clairvoyant child Danny experience sinister events and we see the dark past of the hotel start to unravel.

I've seen this movie referenced so often and i think this film is significant to pop culture for a number of reasons.Jack Nicholson's iconic improvised scene and line “Here's johnny” as well as the entrancing and almost hypnotic set.

If 500 days of summer is the only romance movie you need to watch then the shining is the horror movie you NEED to see.The film won 4 awards in best picture, has 7 nominations and is preserved by the National Film Preservation Board.

7.Mad max fury road

Set in a desolate,post-apocalyptic world, protagonists Max and Furiosa go against what's left of their civilisation. One of the most exciting cat-chase-mouse movie you'll ever watch. This analogy is overused but it's the closest you'll get to riding a roller coaster in the cinema

.Everything from the vivid colours and the over the top costume and makeup makes the movie so compelling to watch. Not to mention the unique bond between the characters make this experience so much more enjoyable.

The movie has the most awards and nominations on this list with around 241 wins and 229 nominations in the sound, costume and production categories. This one of my favourite movies to re-watch ,I don't think I'll ever get tired of it
